Are the wedding ceremony and the reception at the same venue?
Yes! Both are at St. Thomas Aquinas in Madison.
Will the ceremony or reception be indoors or outdoors?
Both are indoors but you are welcome to walk about the church grounds and sit in the courtyard!
What kind of service is the ceremony?
The Rite of Marriage – The Catholic wedding Mass is celebrated like a Solemnity (a special Feast Day), and contains the wedding ceremony within the Mass. This Mass consists of the Liturgy of the Word — a reading from the Old Testament, the Responsorial Psalm, a reading from the New Testament, the Gospel reading, and the Homily. The Rite of Marriage itself takes place following the Homily. After the exchange of vows and rings between the bride and groom, the Rite of Marriage concludes with the Universal Prayer (Intercessions/Petitions). Mass continues with the Liturgy of the Eucharist — the Presentation of the Gifts of bread and wine, the Eucharistic Prayer (where, with the words of consecration, the bread and wine are changed into the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ), the Lord’s Prayer, Nuptial Blessing, Sign of Peace, distribution of Holy Communion, and Final Blessing.
Can everyone participate in the Wedding Mass?
We are blessed to celebrate our marriage within a full Catholic Mass. Guests of all faiths are warmly welcomed to join us in this special celebration! During the Communion portion of the Mass, the Catholic Church asks that Holy Communion be received only by practicing Catholics. All others are invited to remain seated or come forward with arms crossed for a blessing if they wish.
Can we take photos at the ceremony?
Yes! We kindly ask that you avoid stepping in front of the professional photographer and remain respectful of the church altar during the ceremony. Please do not use flash photography in the church.
There will be a QR code shared to an online photo album so you can easily share your photos with us—we truly appreciate your help in capturing these special moments!
What is the dress code?
Semi-Formal / Dressy Casual. Collared shirts with a tie and slacks, or a suit without a tie. Dresses, skirts, or jumpsuits that feel special but not overly formal. No jeans, please.
Will there be food and drinks served?
Appetizers will be served immediately following the wedding ceremony, with dinner to follow at approximately 6:00 PM. Please note that this will be a dry wedding; a variety of non-alcoholic beverages will be available during the reception.
Do you have a registry?
